Southall Care Workers found guilty of abuse
Sun 18 Mar 2012Sonika Limbu and Pargarsh Sahota were filmed by a co-worker at Dormers Wells Lodge, which has room for up 45 patients and which caters for people with dementia and Alzheimers Disease.
Care assistant Slawomira Kowallowska started work at the Southall home in May 2005.
She decided the treatment of patients at Dormers Wells Lodge was abusive and did not meet basic standards of decency.
She used an undercover pen camera to capture the abuse in August and September 2010. She was able to provide the police with about 60 video clips of the abuse and details of other incidents she had witnessed off-camera.
Three women were arrested in November 2010 and all denied the allegations against them.
Pargash Sahota, 57, of Darwin Drive, Southall, was convicted of three counts of ill-treatment under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. She was sentenced to a 12 month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work.
Sonika Limbu, 26, of Webbs Road, Hayes, was convicted of three counts of ill-treatment under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. She was sentenced to a 12 month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work.
A third woman Ahir Kulwinder, 34, was charged with three offences. She was cleared of two charges, with the third to remain on file.
Sahota and Sonika Limbu have been barred from their profession for their "rough, unkind and cruel" behaviour.
The home where they worked had already been criticised for the standards of care it provided.
