Southall Broadway Parking poll
Sat 12 Sep 2009More than 2600 surveys are being distributed to residents and businesses asking whether ‘dual use’ parking bays should be trialled in eight roads near the Broadway and South Road.
The survey will go to those who live or work in the trial area and surrounding roads.
The eight roads, all within the Southall Broadway controlled parking zone, are currently restricted to resident permit parking between 10am and 8pm.
The roads are:
- Alexandra Avenue
- South Avenue
- Greenford Avenue
- Meadow Road
- Park View Road
- St Joseph’s Drive
- Beatrice Road
- Avenue Road
If the ‘dual use’ trial were to go ahead, shoppers would also be able to park there for up to two hours between 10am and 8pm, after purchasing a ticket.
These roads were selected after research revealed that more than half of the spaces are unoccupied during the day.
Residents with permits would continue to park on the roads as normal, and if they live on one of the eight roads, the cost of their annual permits would fall from £45 to £25.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, Councillor David Millican, said: "Southall traders tell us they need more parking for customers and our research shows these eight streets have spare spaces during the day."
"With a discounted annual parking permit also on offer, the proposal could potentially have benefits for residents, people visiting Southall and local businesses."
"Of course, the trial cannot work without the support of the community and it is only fair that the final decision is in their hands.“
If supported by residents and businesses, the trial would last for 12 months during which time the council would monitor how the spaces are used and evaluate the trial’s impact. If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
