Major warehouse fire in Southall sparks large emergency response

Around 25 fire engines and 150 firefighters are currently tackling the blaze at a two-storey building made up of a warehouse and retail units. Fire crews say approximately three-quarters of the structure is alight.
Residents nearby are being urged to keep windows and doors closed because of the significant smoke in the area. Local traffic is expected to face delays while emergency services remain at the scene.
The London Fire Brigade has said:
"This will be a protracted incident with crews carrying out firefighting operations throughout the day."
Susanne Dutton on Facebook said:
“Huge explosions and billowing black smoke in Southall happening now.”
Ealing Council tweeted:
“Crews are dealing with a fire at Middlesex Business Park in Bridge Road, Southall. Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed if you live nearby."
London Ambulance Service tweeted:
"We were called at 9am to a fire in #Southall. We have sent resources to the scene, including our @LAS_HART. We’re working with London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police at the scene. No patients reported so far. We are asking all local residents to keep windows and doors shut."
Deirdre Costigan MP added:
"A significant fire is underway by Bridge Road, Southall. The cause is under investigation. Major traffic disruption is expected due to emergency services at the scene. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed due to heavy smoke."
The Brigade’s control room received more than 50 emergency calls, with the first alert coming in at 8:55am. Firefighters have been deployed from Southall, Heston, Ealing and other surrounding stations.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no further details have yet been released.
Update at 2pm – Ealing Council statement
Ealing Council has confirmed that a major incident has been declared due to the scale of the warehouse fire in Southall.
“London Fire Brigade are responding to a large fire at Middlesex Business Park in Bridge Road, Southall.
Residents in affected areas nearby are being evacuated, and schools are sending pupils home. Rest centres have been established.
Disruption is expected for the next 8 hours. Please avoid the area if you can.
If you live nearby, please stay inside and keep windows and doors closed.”

The Southall warehouse fire: the major incident has now ended.
Local residents can now return home, although the firefighting operation continues.

The Dominion Centre (UB2 4BQ) was used as a rest centre for evacuated residents and schools.
