Southall Vaisakhi procession 2022

Tue 05 Apr 2022
Unfortunately, this year's Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan will not be taking place due to the uncertainty of the Southall bridge roadworks.

Gurdwara sevadaars have been in constant contact to discuss any future events later in the year.

Had it gone ahead this month, worshippers were hoping to gather at the Park Avenue Gurdwara in the morning, to take part in the Nagar Kirtan (procession) to celebrates the birth of the Khalsa and the harvest festival.

“Can’t a different route be arranged with the council and police, it’s not exactly impossible?”

The problem is that Southall is a congested place and there is only one route between old Southall and Southall Broadway. The Southall bridge roadworks are making life even more difficult for people who have to travel along that route.

The last Southall Nagar Kirtan took place on 3 November 2019.

The last Southall Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan took place on 7 April 2019.

There were changes to the procession times and routes. The procession started at 10am instead of the usual 11.45am. The starting location, route and final destination was also changed. The starting location became the Park Avenue Gurdwara, down King street and then proceed to Norwood Hall.

Prior to this, the Nagar Kirtan started off from the Havelock Road (Now Guru Nanak Road) Gurdwara and finished at the Park Avenue Gurdwara.

The Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan in 2020 and 2021 was postponed/cancelled for the “safety, security and wellbeing of the Sangat” due to impact of the Corona virus.
