Date: Sat 07 Feb 2026Time: 3 pm to 7 pm
An exciting series from The Sher Jung Foundation showcasing talented writers - come along to our seventh event of the series.
Join us for our upcoming Author Talks event on 7th February 2026 featuring Sunjeev Sahota.
Sunjeev Sahota is an award-winning British novelist whose work is marked by powerful, compassionate explorations of migration, identity, and the longing for belonging. Born in 1981 in Derbyshire, he studied mathematics before turning to fiction, releasing his acclaimed debut Ours Are the Streets in 2011.
His breakthrough came with The Year of the Runaways, shortlisted for the Booker Prize and widely recognised as one of the defining novels of its generation. His third book, China Room, further cemented his reputation, earning praise across the literary world.
Sahota’s latest novel, The Spoiled Heart, is his first set entirely in Britain — specifically in his hometown of Chesterfield. The story follows a fiercely contested union leadership race and unfolds into a gripping, emotionally rich narrative about love, class, and identity.
Blending a family mystery with contemporary politics, the novel explores how race, loyalty, and community intersect and collide. In addition to his writing, Sahota teaches Creative Writing at Durham University, where he mentors and encourages emerging writers.
The Sher Jung Foundation is delighted to announce that all four of Sahota’s books will be available to purchase and have signed at our event.
Your ticket also includes a welcome drink and a snack box created by award-winning chef Dipna Anand.
