The Sher Jung Foundation launch event
Date: Fri 02 Jun 2023Time: 6:30 pm - 10 pm
Charity launch for the Sher Jung Foundation which aims to promote and support aspiring writers and promote literacy.
The Sher Jung Foundation is a recently formed charity in memory of Sher Jung, a political satirist, who authored 13 published books mainly in the Punjabi language. Sher Jung came to the UK in 1966.
Regrettably, Sher Jung passed away in 1996 at the age of 59. He was a prominent Headteacher in India who staunchly believed in providing free education to all, irrespective of their financial means and social background. The charity foundation intends to work closely with the school in Punjab associated with Sher Jung, to extend support and aid wherever possible.
The Sher Jung Foundation has been established to uphold and promote the ideals championed by Sher Jung. The foundation aims to support and encourage aspiring writers, with a focus on South Asian writers, while also fostering literacy within the community. The foundation intends to achieve this objective through various initiatives, such as scholarships, internships, and mentorship programs.
This upcoming event will mark the official launch of the charity foundation. Attendees can expect to hear from distinguished guest speakers, including Sathnam Sanghera, the renowned author of "The Boy with the Topknot", "Marriage Material", and "Empireland".
The event includes a welcome drink along with mouth-watering cuisine from the acclaimed Brilliant Restaurant in Southall.
In addition, Sathnam Sanghera will be present for a book signing of his newest publication, "Stolen History". Copies of the book will be available for purchase prior to its official release.
Tickets cost £35. Book your place today via www.eventbrite.co.uk
