Consultation on the Future of Youth Services in Southall

Date: Thu 25 Nov 2021
Time: 17:30pm - 19:30 pm
An opportunity to come together to discuss the future of Youth Services in Southall.

Following the Ealing Young Champions’ campaign to prevent the demolition of the Young Adult Centre (YAC) in Southall, Ealing Council are proposing to move the youth provision from the YAC and repurpose the site for housing

They have committed to building a new, fit-for-purpose youth centre in Southall on one of two potential sites over the next three to five years, with interim provision being run from the Dominion Centre and Dormers Hub.

Whilst the Young Ealing Foundation is disappointed with the decision to close the YAC, we are committed to working with the Council to ensure disruption to youth services is kept to a minimum and that the new provision is of high quality and genuinely meets the needs of Southall’s children and young people.

The purpose of this event will be for the Cabinet to lay out the proposal for the future of building-based youth services and engage with local young people and community groups to get their feedback on the proposals. The format will be as follows:

5:30pm – 6pm: Arrivals and an opportunity to see site plans of proposed interim and permanent facility options

6pm – 6:15pm: Cabinet presentation on proposed plans to replace the YAC site

6:15pm – 7pm: Q&A to cabinet, chaired by Elly

7pm – 8pm: Activity to consult on key questions, including:

  • What facilities are needed for Children and Young People in Southall?
  • What services are needed for Children and Young People in Southall?
  • How would you like to be involved in the planning process?
  • How do you think the youth facility (YAC or otherwise) should be managed going forward?
