Southall Charter Engagement Days

Sun 07 Oct 2012
The Southall Charter Engagement Days took place on Friday and Saturday at Southall Town Hall.

The Southall Charter sets out the vision for Southall and is the result of an extensive consultation with local people and businesses. The main ideas board displayed all the issues of concern to the local community.

This lead to individual projects/programmes displayed on their own display boards. Individuals and group were invited to take part in the projects/programmes that were of interest to them.

Funding has been obtained for 60% of the projects. The local community is expected take care of another 30% of them. The remaining 10% of the ideas are considered to be very ambitious.

Why would someone come from Birmingham to do their in shopping in Southall? The view of one such couple was that shopping in Southall was cheaper and the fashion was ahead of Birmingham. Apart from it being very busy, the general appearance was of a not so clean place.

Ealing Council, Community ambassadors’, Urban Initiative, Southall Police, Police cadets, Southall Community Alliance, The NHS, community/faith groups, councillors and mostly individuals took part in the two open days. Friday was a less successful day due to the weather.

The Police, Police cadets and a Dhol player were outside attracting the attention of the passing public.
