A Southall takeaway and its director have been ordered to pay a combined £9,600 following a prosecution over food hygiene and safety breaches.

Kabuli Grill Limited, which traded as Kabuli Charcoal Grill at Grand Union Enterprise Park, and company director Shahbaz Ahmad were convicted of four food safety offences at Ealing Magistrates’ Court following a trial on 14 August 2026.

The case followed an unannounced inspection by Ealing Council's food safety officers in May 2025.

Inspectors reported a number of problems at the takeaway, including grease and food debris in food preparation areas, dirty shelving and electrical fittings, damaged surfaces and door frames, and drainage issues.

They also found food being stored in unsuitable conditions. Partially wrapped raw meat was kept above containers of other food, while rice was stored in a dirty bucket close to cleaning chemicals.

Several high-risk foods, including rice, yoghurt, chutney, gravy, noodles and lamb curry, were also found being kept at room temperature.

The company was convicted of failing to register the food business correctly, poor cleanliness and maintenance, failing to protect food from contamination, and unsafe temperature control of high-risk foods.

Kabuli Grill Limited was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £2,000 in costs and an £800 victim surcharge.

Mr Ahmad received the same penalties, bringing the total amount ordered against the company and its director to £9,600.

The council said the prosecution followed previous warnings and enforcement action concerning food safety at the business.

Kabuli Charcoal Grill is no longer trading, with another business now operating from the same address.
