Fireworks are enjoyed by many people during celebrations and cultural events. They are also a popular part of celebrations across Southall and Ealing.

However, the use of fireworks has become a growing concern, with complaints and calls for stronger controls because of the impact on neighbourhoods, vulnerable people and animals.

The Government is now seeking views on how fireworks can be made safer and better for everyone, while allowing people to continue enjoying them for celebrations.

What is being proposed?

The consultation is part of the Government's Safer Streets Mission, which aims to tackle anti-social behaviour.

One proposal is to restrict the availability of noisier fireworks to the general public, with louder products potentially being made available only to professional users.

The Government is also considering adding products considered to pose unacceptable risks to the existing list of banned pyrotechnic products.

Another proposal is to review the rules covering fireworks and pyrotechnic products currently classed as lower risk, so that regulations better reflect the different levels of risk they pose.

The Government is consulting before making any changes. It wants to hear evidence and views from the public to help shape the proposals and avoid unintended consequences.
