The inquiry led officers to uncover a series of serious offences, including the rape of a child.
Navroop Singh, 24, of Mellow Lane East, Hayes, UB4, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years on Friday, 4 July 2025. He was found guilty of five separate offences, including attempted rape and rape at Isleworth Crown Court.
The Southall incident occurred on Sunday, 13 October 2024, when Singh targeted a woman in Southall Park, located in the London Borough of Ealing. He was convicted of attempted rape and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictabe offence, following a four-day trial on 8th May 2025.
Singh had earlier admitted to three further charges, all connected to the rape of a child in Hayes End Park on 23 October 2024:
- Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Rape of a girl under 13
- Assault of a girl under 13 by penetration
The Metropolitan Police launched a full investigation after the Southall Park assault, using CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and witness reports to identify Singh.
The attack in Southall was crucial in alerting authorities to his behaviour and ultimately played a key role in linking him to the later, even more serious offence in Hayes.
Acting Chief Superintendent Sean Lynch, who leads policing in West Area, said:
"I would like to commend the strength of the victim-survivors and their families and thank them for their unwavering bravery in reporting these awful incidents to us.Today’s conviction is testament to the officers’ thorough investigation, which has identified a violent sexual offender and undoubtedly prevented further harm.
We are continuing to prioritise tackling violence against women and girls with our increased specialist teams. I hope that the community will find reassurance in our action to put this predator behind bars,"
The Southall incident began when the victim, a woman in her 20s, was confronted by Singh in the early hours of 13 October 2024. He had been sitting on a bench in Southall Park, lying in wait for someone to pass. He threatened her with an imitation firearm, which he had previously bought and assembled, before attempting to rape her.
Fortunately, the victim encountered two off-duty police officers near the park entrance who accompanied her to the local station. Her quick action and bravery led to a swift police response.
After Singh struck again in Hayes just 10 days later, raping a child in child in Hayes End Park, investigators immediately suspected a link. With increased resources and forensic support, officers traced the suspect to within a few doors of his home address. Police patrols, leaflet drops, and local engagement helped close in on the suspect.
Singh was arrested on Sunday, 27 October 2025. Throughout the investigation and trial, both victims received support from specialist officers.
