Ramadhan 2018 (1439 AH)

Wed 16 May 2018
Muslims throughout the world and Southall will be starting the month of Ramadhan (the month of fasting) on Thursday 17 May 2018.

Throughout the world they were looking for a crescent moon sighting at sunset yesterday to decide if Ramadhan (the month of fasting) starts on Wednesday or Thursday.

According to scientific data a new crescent moon is only visible after 20 hours. And the moon’s angle (altitude) from the sun at sunset needs to be at least 7 degrees.

The new moon was born on Tuesday 15 May 2018 at 12:48 (BST). It was predicted to be "not easy to see it anywhere".

There were no moon sighting in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, so they completed 30 days of Sha'ban today.

Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Ramadhan will begin on Thursday 17 May 2018. As usual Taraweeh prayers will start on Wednesday 16 May after Isha Prayer.

Southall along with the rest of the UK will start Ramadhan on the same day.
