History event for Southall Manor House

Date: Sat 07 May 2011
Time: 2 to 5pm
Description:
Residents will step back in time when Southall Manor House hosts an ‘Old Time Village Fete’ in celebration of the area’s local history.

The event will recreate the original opening of the grounds to the public 100 years ago and will see actors taking on the roles of the owner of the house, the gardener and a fair-ground showman

It is the final event in a year-long community history programme, sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has seen local school children and volunteers collecting memories of the park from the area’s older residents.

Visitors will be able to try traditional fairground games, such as the coconut shy, help to plant a flower bed and try their hand at Victorian cake decorating and the Fulham Brass Band will be providing the music.

The Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing, Councillor Rajinder Mann, will take part in a ceremony recreating of the original 1913 opening of the park, at 3pm.

Councillor Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council and cabinet member for Regeneration, said: "I hope that people will take the time to visit on the day, learn more about people’s memories of the area."

This is a FREE event.
