Save Southall’s Children’s Centres: Protest Against Ealing Council Cuts

Time: 5:30 pm
Ealing residents will gather outside Ealing Town Hall on Tuesday, 10 June, to protest at Ealing Council’s plan to shut down four out of six children’s centres in Southall — a staggering 66% cut to services for families with children aged 0–4.
This move directly threatens vital early years support in an area with some of the highest levels of poverty and greatest need in the borough.
Southall is home to a predominantly family-based population, with many young children and babies. Campaigners argue that the closures are not only short-sighted but harmful and discriminatory, targeting a community that depends heavily on these centres for education, childcare, health support, and stability
The people of Southall, in particular, have a proud history of resistance and grassroots activism, having won several hard-fought battles against Ealing Council over the past decade. This latest mobilisation continues that legacy.
A petition demanding the council reverse its decision is being circulated both online and in paper form to ensure that digitally excluded residents can also make their voices heard. The protest will draw attention to the long-term damage these closures could inflict and call for immediate action to protect the future of Southall’s youngest generation.
The protest will highlight the long-term impact such cuts would have on young children’s development and community well-being.
"Ealing Council are proposing to close Dormer's Wells, Grove House, Greenfields & Windmill Park Children's Centres in Southall."
Residents are urged to sign the petition "Halt the Planned Reduction of Children's Centre Services in Ealing" – https://chng.it/8trT2NCTGW
At least 1,500 signatures are required for the Ealing Council petition, on Ealing Council website, to be considered for debate by the full council. To be officially recognised and trigger council action (like a debate or scrutiny), it must go through Ealing Council’s formal channels/website. The Change.org petition has 1,862 verified signatures and can be formally presented to Ealing Council.
The Save Ealing Children's Centres campaign group encourages everyone to sign the petition, visit their website for more information, and follow them on social media at @saveealingchildrenscentres.
