Launch of Platform for Indian Democracy
Date: Tue 16 Apr 2024Time: 7 pm - 10 pm
Join us for the launch of the Platform for Indian Democracy, a space for British Indians to come together to deepen, discuss and uphold our connections with India.
Be a part of this historic occasion as we come together with renowned community leaders, activists, academics and journalists to celebrate and discuss the future of Indian democracy.
India has a proud history of culture, community, democracy, and having a determined spirit. It is a history that as British Indians, we share. With such a diverse population with many traditions and connected histories, India is a symbol of strength in unity and diversity.
However, with a growing suppression of individual freedoms and the shrinking of democratic protections, we are concerned that this very history is under threat. With these challenges facing India’s democracy, the British Indian community needs to stand up for India and the values that have been passed down for generations and across the world.
With the support of the British Indian community, renowned community leaders, academics and journalists, we have founded Platform for Indian Democracy. The Platform is a community-led organisation that seeks to celebrate and protect a truly democratic India. We are uniting to establish a vibrant self-organising Platform, that catalyses and amplifies calls from the British Indian community, for a secular and democratic India.
We hope that you will join us for our launch event where we will explore our shared love for India, our connected histories and the traditions and practises our families have brought to the UK from India. Throughout the night, we will be celebrating the foundation that makes the entire experience possible - our democracy.
With cultural performances, life stories from British Indians and a Q&A with esteemed community leaders chaired by Suresh Grover, we hope that you leave the event wanting to be part of this movement. A movement that reflects the values upon which India was founded - inclusivity, diversity and democracy.
