Dirty Weekend: Dig with archaeologists in Southall, with Canal & River Trust
Start Date: Fri 19 May 2023End Date: Sun 21 May 2023
Time: various times
Take part in an archaeological dig to unearth historic ruins along the Grand Union Canal in Southall, with DigVentures and Canal & River Trust.
Archaeologists are coming to Southall to unearth the historic ruins of the Lockkeeper’s Cottage. These ruins are going to be converted into a new community garden for everyone to enjoy along the Southall Wellbeing Way.
What did these historic ruins originally look like? Will the dig uncover any historical clues about who lived here? Was there a garden? Can the evidence that is uncovered inspire the design of the new community garden?
Here's a unique chance to participate in an actual archaeological excavation, experience archaeology firsthand, and contribute to the rediscovery of a missing piece of local history. All of this is available right on your doorstep in Southall.
Friday and Saturday sessions are designed for adults aged 18+ and young people aged 14-17. Young people aged 14-17 must be accompanied at all times by an adult. No previous knowledge or experience is required.
Sunday sessions are designed for families with children aged 9+. Everyone attending must have booked a place.
