Resident Survey results are out
Tue 24 Feb 2015The 2014 residents’ survey revealed that 76% of respondents felt the council is doing a good job, while 74% were satisfied with the way the council runs things.
The survey showed that 95% of residents felt safe in their local neighbourhood during the day, with 72% feeling safe after dark.
Satisfaction remained high across a number of services, with 89% satisfied with street lighting, 86% satisfied with refuse collection and 83% with parks and open spaces.
Residents also overwhelmingly agreed that people from different ethnic backgrounds get on well together and respect ethnic differences between people, with 91% of respondents agreeing.
While 90% of young people said they were satisfied with their local area as a place to live.
The survey was carried out by ICM Unlimited, an independent research company, between October and November 2014 and they questioned more than 2,300 people across the borough.
Councillor Julian Bell, leader of the council, said: "The results are a real credit to council staff who have managed to keep up their high standards of service for residents while battling with massive reductions to their budgets. We will continue with our commitments to make the borough a better place to live and work."
Other results included:
- 21 % of residents said they were most concerned about traffic congestion and litter, while 20% cited a lack of affordable housing
- 34% of residents thought rubbish or litter lying around was a ‘very big’ or ‘fairly big’ problem in their local area.
More than 300 young people aged 11 – 17 years were also interviewed as part of the survey.
The results included the following:- 29% of young people were concerned there were not enough being done for young people
- 27% of young people were concerned with litter/dirt in streets
- 18% of young people were concerned about crime, including anti-social behaviour and terrorism.
