Pakistan and India Independence Days

Mon 15 Aug 2011
Sunday 14th August was Pakistan Independence Day and Monday 15th of August is India Independence Day and are commemorated in Southall.

Would the Pakistan celebrations be more sombre due to most Muslims fasting during the month of Ramadhan?

It was hoped that the majority of the Pakistan supporters would be sensible enough to divert their attention and energy to more important matters like fasting and praying during the holy month of Ramadhan.

While one set of Muslims were praying in the mosque, Maghrib, Isha and Tarawee prayers, the other set were making a racket outside at the same time.

It is considered bad manners to disturb any one praying. It is outright disgusting to make a prolonged racket outside a mosque while people are making extra efforts to offer prayers inside at the prescribed times.

This is not the vision, the poet of Asia, Allama Iqbal had of Pakistan.

Neither is it the vision of the founder of Pakistan Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

Nor is it the vision of the local community leaders.

It was merely an excuse for individuals to express themselves while ignoring the wishes of others.

Not much unity on show.

As usual, most of the noisy people came from outside Southall.

The police were out in force partly due to the recent riots across the country..

No racket can be heard on India Independance day, even at 10 pm.

We wish everyone Happy Independence Days.
