Southall Manor House fun day

Date: Sat 21 Aug 2010
Time: 11 am - 3 pm
Description:
Southall Manor House and Grounds on Southall Green will welcome residents from the borough to a Family Fun Day, with music, dance and food reflecting the cultural diversity of the area.

The event is to celebrate the historic park’s past and involve local people in shaping its future. It will be opened by the Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing, Councillor Mann.

There will be performances from the Tamil Community Centre, the Stardust Steel Band, Pushpalata Dance Company and Indian singing and music from Nishi Malhotra will be taking place throughout the day.

There will be a range of fun children’s activities including pond dipping and arts and crafts stalls.

Other children’s activities include a treasure hunt and face painting.

Southall Manor House was built in 1587 and is the oldest building in Southall. Ealing Council recently announced that it is to spend £560,000 on repairing and refurbishing the building.

The grounds have recently been improved with the restoration of the pool and gardens. A new children’s play area has also been opened.

There will be a consultation booth that will be used to capture people’s views of the Manor House and how they think it should be used when all of the work is finished.

And visitors will also be invited to take part in an oral history project, which will piece together people’s memories of the manor, its grounds and the local area.

Councillor Julian Bell, Leader of the Council and cabinet member for Regeneration said: "I would like to invite everyone take part in our Family Fun Day."

"The Southall Manor House is one of Ealing’s most important historic buildings and now, thanks to this investment, has a fantastic future ahead of it."

"We would like to involve the community in shaping this future and I hope people will come along, enjoy the entertainment and tell us what they think."
