Asian vitiligo expert coming to Britain
Now Brit-Asians won't have to fly to India for specialist vitiligo treatment, a pioneer in the field of melanocyte transplantation will be coming to Britain.
Vitiligo is a chronic disorder of the skin characterised by a complete lack of pigmentation in certain areas resulting in white spots. It effects all races worldwide but the incidence is highest amongst Asians and Mexicans, typically 3-4% of the Asian population. Vitiligo is a cosmetic disability only but it is accompanied by such misconceptions that sufferers often find themselves victims of discrimination.
Dr Sanjeev Mulekar has pioneered the treatment of stable vitiligo using the patient's own melanocytes, the skin cells producing pigment. Dr Mulekar has successfully treated over 1500 patients, has trained dermatologists and surgeons in India and has given lectures and workshops in Dubai, Yemen, Libya and Singapore, Dr Mulekar will be visiting London once a month to pass these benefits on to Brit-Asians.
As well as publishing more than 10 research papers in reputable dermatology journals, Dr Mulekar is a member of the Indian Association of Dermatologists and the Indian Medical Association. He is registered with both the Indian and Saudi Medical Councils and will provide treatment in Britain under Visiting Eminent Overseas Specialist status with the UK General Medical Council. Dr Mulekar currently holds a position at the Riyadh Centre for Vitiligo and Psoriasis Research.
Dr Mulekar will be visiting London once a month and to find out more information, contact the Wimpole Aesthetic Centre, tel 0207 224 2247
